Sailors Home Pub & Restaurant Reviews

advised to book a table on aug bank holiday sunday so we did. my mother is a diabetic amputee. we arrived to find our table given to someone else and totally unhelpful staff. not ideal when you are disabled and have to eat to inject insulin. book at your own risk. can’t comment on food as never got opportunity to try but staff attitude spoke volumes and we wont be coming back!

  2. John Ley Says:

We spent a week in kessinglandf and found ourselves drawn back time and again. Possibly, this is the friendliest pub we have ever been to. Paul and his staff go out of their way to make you visit pleasurable. The food is excellent and good value for money — particualrly the skate wings which we had caught earlier! Excellent. A must place to visit if you are in the area.

We ‘attempted’ to eat at the Sailors Home on Thursday 20th September when we ordered a steak and chips etc and a jacket potato with cheddar and salad.
This was the first time I have ever known my husband to leave steak and mushrooms on his plate. We could have soled our shoes with the tough steak and I think the chef must have run out of cheese before he got to my potato – there was about a desert spoon full of grated cheese on a (warm) potato and the salad was uninteresting to say the least. Staff were unprofessional and although we mentioned our opinions quietly to the young man who collected our plates there was no response from the chef or management.
The following 2 nights we ate at Livingstones where the food and drinks were not only cheaper – they were 100 times more enjoyable and served by pleasant staff.

  4. Tom Says:

This place is one of my favourite places to come, whether that is for food, to relax or have a nice pint of ale. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the array of ales are absolutely superb and it really is hard to find a better selection, anywhere. Overlooking the beach, this is a lovely place to come, day and night.

  5. Tony Says:

With reference to the review posted by ‘Margaret’ – I have been using the Sailors Home, on and off, for a long time now and I can assure any readers of this item that, not only is it a very good P.H., it has very helpful and pleasant staff, their food is good (you have only to look at the number of regulars and visitors who eat there repeatedly and, unlike many other pubs, their friendliness is not confined solely to the paying customer. They are dog friendly too, given a well behaved animal. I regret that Margaret must have caught an ‘off’ moment, but nobody is perfect ALL of the time. Their usual standard is very high & I can think of many other pubs which might benefit fropm following their example. Tony.

  6. Ann Says:

Have just spent a few days in Kessingland and looking for a good pub in which to eat that was dog friendly. We went to the Sailors Home and found the staff and locals very friendly. The food was excellent so we didn’t bother to look elsewhere. We went to the Sailors Home every night and were never disappointed with the food or the service we received. We shall definitely be going back to Kessingland and The Sailors Home.

We have friends who live in Kessingland and we nearly always pop into the Sailors Home for a drink or a meal. As Tony said, they are a really friendly local pub and we have never had any bad experiences with the food or treatment. As Tony also stated they might have had an off moment but we reocommend this pub always. Keep up the good work guys.. all the best… Dave and Helen from Barnet Herts…

  8. John and Family Says:

Popped in for a bite to eat, dog friendly, staff were down to earth and very helpfull.
Food was cleared by our 3 children, I haven’t just sat down and enjoyed pub grub for ages.
They served good ale too…I intend to visit again! Many thanks

  9. gill Says:

We came for a short break this year & decided we like the area so much that we would like to live locally but cannot find a-property rentals- landlord who will take pets or a-buying-static park that is not-expensive or-communal gardens
Any ideas gratefully considered-looking forward to meetin up at the pub again

  10. Mark Says:

We stay at the Caravan Club site around the corner from the Sailors Home 3 or 4 times a year and always pop in for a pint and occasionally something to eat. They often have bands on – in the summer they’re sometimes outside – inside if on are unobtrusive. The beer is very good – Sky Sports on the big screen in the games room if that’s what you want. Very dog friendly, and although very busy on a Sunday afternoon, we were made most welcome and everyone had a stroke and pat of our dog.
